What about this case (Scotty Nguyen vs Mickael Mizrachi on WPT 06 Tunica)
Mickael bets 170000 (with the nuts) …
Scotty (with a trips) says “I raise” and first put 170000 he had in is hands before reaching back to more in his stacks …
Then the dealer (nobody else than Linda Johnson) announced “Scotty makes the call of one-seventy” …
Mickael (excited) first show his cards then try to take it back (too late) …
It had been ruled (?) that “since the raise wasn’t in, Scotty still had the option to raise the pot” (???) Scotty surely didn’t choose to take that route because he had seen the hand of mickael! lol! …
What a strange ruling ???
I would’nt autorize Scotty to actually raise free (just imagine the case he just have a better hand and no one have the nuts) because Mickael had been fooled by the dealer and now is playing cards up and also because Scotty used a wrong procedure to raise (he string bet in two motions of 170000 plus something) !!! … I would make him raise just the minimum BUT NOT CHOOSE (too easy for him) … and let Mickael choose between fold - call & reraise!

Let’s post a picture of us while at “work” … we speak to each other but didn’t introduce ourselves really:
I’m Guillaume (William) Gleize (”frenchflush”), tournament director of the “France Poker Tour” (& others) … and here I am (on the picture) as TD of the final day of a tournament in Marseille (France):

What about you? (come on!)

When you ask the question to all thoses professionals (or non professional) tournament directors about the “protect your hand “rule they all answer like one man: “if a dealer (or a player) kills your hand by accident: it’s not their fault: IT’S YOUR OWN FAULT AND YOUR HAND IS DEFINITIVELY DEAD”!
When you ask them or explain them this kind of situation … it looks like there’s absolutely no doubt for them: THE HAND IS DEAD … END OF THE STORY!
BUT … BUT … BUT when those brilliant tournament directors (pro or not) ARE THEMSELVES IN THIS SITUATION … and whatever the level of the tournament (I’m also here speaking of the WSOP) … and they face a situation where their own dealer killed the hand of a famous big stack player while he was reraising just throwing his cards in the muck … well … IT’S NOT THE SAME STORY! MOST OF THE TIME THEY INVENT A ”BRAND NEW RULE” LIKE ASKING THE PLAYER TO NAME HIS HAND & TRY TO FIND IT IN THE TOP OF THE MUCK OR OTHER CHRISTMAS FATHER STORIES LIKE THAT …
It’s not enough to write an unfair rule (protect your cards or it’s your own fault) … but it’s more courageous to APPLY THIS RULE TO THEIR OWN TOURNAMENT!
I’m a tournament director but your know it now: I HATE THIS RULE (like it’s author must hate it too because they can’t apply it either!)!

a player pulled his posted blinds back. he was sorting and stacking chips from the previous hand that he won. upon being told that he pulled his blinds back, he reposted them. after the tournament was over he was notified that if it happened again he would not be allowed in the league any more. this was his second warning for this infraction. does this sound fair? shouldn’t the dealer control the action? a penalty seems fair but being barred from the league seems going too far. many other rules are broken during league play (rabbit hunting, card exposure, verbal card exposure, etc. ) but nothing is brought up. this player is leading the league in points. there are roughly 30 players in league. thanks for any responses!

Hello, a friend of mine playing during the last WSOP experienced this:
During a hand he went all-in … someone payed him … and when he wanted to expose his cards he realised that the dealer allready took it and mixed it with the muck (the dealer thought that it was someone else hand!). The dealer recognised his error and call for the floor! I know the “normal” rules (usually the hand is definitly dead!) but here is how the WSOP floor managed it:
The floor arrives and without any hesitation he asks my friend to speak away from the table and goes: “tell me your exact hand, I will try to find it in the MIXED MUCK: if I find it we give it back to you … if not you are out of the tournament and out of all our casinos for your life! OK?”
My friend accepted it (good deal for him)!
BUT WOW: WHAT IS THAT RULE & WHERE DID THEY FIND IT ???

I’m really tired, but this happened tonight at a major (actually 3 simultaneously run, side by side) Tournament, anyways, I caught up with the action after most of it had unfolded, but I ruled on what I saw.
Player 1 puts player 2 all in. I believe after the turn. The river comes up and Player one has 2 pair, while player 2 had rivered a flush, but unnoticed by anyone at the table, including the dealer. Player 2 leaves his seat, goes around to the other side of the table, shakes player 1’s hand and congratulates him, and shakes another guys hand after the guy comes out of the bathroom (bathroom guy not at the table, not involved in any way with the current tournament, bearing in mind player 2 is intoxicated), as player 2 is walking away from the table, someone from the gallery shouts that player 2 actually had a flush, however, the cards are now Mucked! with all players cards and burn cards plus board pushed together with some cards facing up and some down.
Player 2 runs back to the table to declare he won the hand, by this time, player 1 has just about all the chips placed in his tray, and as i said the cards are somewhat mucked.
The dealer did manage to re-enact the hand, but only by memory of what people had in their hands and what the community cards were.
I declare player 1 the winner, simply based on the muck.
Player 2 got really upset, and was almost bounced out of the place.
His defense was that he didn’t muck the cards, just left them there, however, the dealer was in the midst of collecting all cards for the next deal.
I feel my ruling was justified, was I right???
Thanks
This board is the best I have ever seen for TD’s and players alike!
Keep up the great work!

I have a quick question on out of turn action. I know there has been many posts about this but I don’t think this topic has been covered.
Situation: Player A makes the minimum bet, Player B does not act, but is still in the hand, Player C folds out of turn and Player D goes all in. Player B speaks up and declares that action is up to him.
Is Player D only allowed to call the bet seeing as he acted out of turn or is he allowed to make his original bet seeing as the “out of turn mistake” was made by Player C?
Any suggestions?
