Dealer Mucking The Flop?!

Here is a situation that came up not long in a SNG I was playing in.

Player to my right raises, I re-raise all in and 1 person besides the original raiser fold. The original raiser re-raises all in and the other player folds out. The original raise is no entitled to receive change in the form a green chip, the dealer however puts all of the chips into the pot, burns a card and begins his motion of running the flop by placing the 3 flop cards face down. At this point both the the person who is entitled to his change and myself point out to the dealer that the pot is incorrect. The dealer checks the pot and gives the person change…so far so good…now the dealer looks down, sees the 3 cards on the table in front of him and slides them into the muck. We called the floor over and the floor person decided to toss a coin to decide on whether it should be a misdeal or we should continue with the next 3 cards as the flop. I was of the opinion at this point is that it should have just been declared a misdeal, as we were not going to be able to see the flop as it would have originally been when we placed the bets. How do you see this, should this hand have been declared dead and everyone given their chips back or should it have gone (as it ended up doing after the toss) on with the next 3 cards as the flop, which would have originally been the turn a burn and the river?
